What can I really say besides the hype is very real? Coach Platinum follows its predecessor’s footsteps in being an overall crowd-pleaser. However, although it utilises a similar scent DNA as Coach for Men, it is my own opinion that Platinum has slightly more depth. Off the bat, Coach Platinum is an easy blind buy for anybody who’s in the market for a nice gift or simply wants to smell gorgeous.
Coach Platinum opens with a beautiful top note with pineapple bursting into the scene accompanied by a dash of spice from the pepper. Strangely enough, the opening reminds me of biting into a slice of vanilla cake, which arguably results in me making the claim that Platinum is gourmand-ish.
Let the juice sit for a moment and you will really start to understand where all the comparisons from Dior Sauvage are coming from. I agree that they are similar, however, I err on the side of them being distinctly different in character. Call me a seasoned veteran of the Sauvage bandwagon, but you have to give it credit for being a champion of its class.
To me, Sauvage is far sharper and “confrontational”. This might be the quality that allows for Sauvage to garner so many compliments as the scent is screaming for attention. On the other hand, Platinum is smoother, creamier, and overall more “comforting”. Platinum, so far, has not gotten me many unsolicited compliments but I know it smells good. Picture the Sauvage man in a leather jacket on a motorcycle, while the Platinum man in a casual shirt reading in a cafe.
Now for the details of my time and testing with Coach Platinum. Given the conditions of a rainy and chilly day, and spending most of my time in climate-controlled environments, these are the results in my opinion.
Scent: 8/10
Platinum is unoffensive and mass appealing. I am confident that almost everyone would like this fragrance, although they may not have any particularly strong feelings towards it. However, Platinum lacks in uniqueness and will not necessarily stand out from the crowd.
Longevity: 7.5/10
On my skin, Platinum projects for a good hour or so upon first application. After which it sits closer to the skin and with the help of its sweetness powers through an average of 4 to 6 hours.
Sillage: 7
Strangely, Platinum’s trail does not really perform well on my skin. But it’s not too shabby either, in my opinion, it works well in settings where you do not want to choke people out with your juice.
Versatility: 9.5/10
This might seem like a very generous score, but to me it wholeheartedly deserves it. I cannot think of an occasion where it would be inappropriate to bust out this bottle of goodness. What it lacks in uniqueness and “event-worthiness” it makes up with outstanding versatility. Heck, I would ever go as far as to say it transcends the lines of gender and that literally anyone can pull Coach Platinum off.
Price: 8/10
It is what it is, a designer fragrance. The price is very similar to its designer competitors the likes of Dior Sauvage and Prada Luna Rossa Carbon.
In conclusion, what more is there to say? If you’re looking for an all-purpose blind buy to add into your fragrance rotation, I recommend Coach Platinum. There is just something so delicious about this release. If anything, it at least deserves getting your nose on it since its readily available at most departmental stores now.
